****MYDOOM WORM****

Customers please be advised of a new virus, the Mydoom worm. The Mydoom worm was discovered on January 28, 2004. This virus can impede access to some websites, including some Microsoft.com websites. This new MYDOOM virus is a mass-mailing worm that selects from a list of email subjects, message bodies, and attachment file names for its email messages. It spoofs the sender name of its messages so that they appear to have been sent by different users instead of the actual users on infected machines. It also propagates using the Kazaa peer-to-peer file-sharing network and copies itself into machines with random IP addresses. It scans IP addresses for accessible systems and sends a copy of itself into these systems. It also performs a denial of service (DoS) attack against some websites and internet service providers (ISPs). Like earlier worm viruses, this worm also has a backdoor component. It opens ports to allow remote access to infected machines. This virus also allows hackers to gain access to your personal data safed on your hard drive.
This worm runs on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP.

MYDOOM spreads via e-mail. We are advising customers to be on the alert for this virus as it spreads in the wild. Customers are advised to review this information and take the appropriate action for their environments.

We suggest you download the latest updates for your Anti-Virus software.
